FydeOS

Postby zulu99 » Sat Jul 28, 2018 5:59 pm

Last day i found FydeOS https://fydeos.com/

FydeOS is a portable Chrome OS derivation that can run Android apps and Linux apps and that you can install on many PC with an Intel GPU.

Playning with this strange beast, i decided to adapted some DroidMote functionalities to Chrome OS.

Android in jail in a container is not something that i like too much, because despite can seems a cool thing, Android containerized, lose many functionalities compared to the native OS.

However, after having struggled with the many restrictions created by Google for Chrome OS, I created a script that allows you to use uinput in the container and that exposes the ports of DroidMote Server on the local network + logically, a specific DroidMote version for Chrome OS devices that was updated inside the app.

As always you need ROOT in Android to run DroidMote Server and to have ROOT you can follow this guide:
https://nolirium.blogspot.com/2016/12/a ... shell.html

When you have root in Android and you can mount Chrome OS partitions read and write, you can execute the follow script to add uinput and to expose DroidMote Server on local LAN: ( in the video from 00.08 to 00.26 seconds )

In Chrome OS shell, with root permissions and rootfs writable type:

Code: Select all

curl -Ls http://www.videomap.it/script/droidmote-port-forward.sh | sudo sh

If you run the script for the first time, you must reboot to apply changes.
After the first time, the script will open the DroidMote ports on LAN automatically at startup.

I suggest to try FydeOS on your PC and if you need help, let me know here.

Interesting. I hadn't heard of FydeOS before. I wonder how it compares to CloudReady. Have you tried that one?

FydeOS is the only one that support Android apps. Apart official Chrome OS devices.

Chrome OS without Android apps or Linux apps is just a browser. So, at least for me, Cloudready without Android apps can't compete with FydeOS.

Is there any English support for this OS?

In FydeOS you can edit the file /etc/chrome_dev.conf to change the default language from Chinese to English

add this lines to /etc/chrome_dev.conf

Code: Select all

--lang=en-US
LANGUAGE=en-US

To enable Google Play in FydeOS, install nova launcher from apkmirror.com and click on Google Play icon from inside the Launcher. After pin the icon of Google Play to FydeOS status bar. You can now uninstall nova launcher.

Now you can run on your PC also a complete Google Chrome OS firmware thanks to this guide:

https://github.com/arnoldthebat/chromiumos/issues/153

Mainly you must install FydeOS on the usb drive and after you overwrite the content of the ROOTA partition with the content of the ROOTA partition of an original Chrome OS recovery firmware. After the overwrite you must delete the modules of the original Chrome OS firmware in /lib/modules and edit the file /etc/selinux/config to permissive

UPDATE

I made a native DroidMote Server for Chrome OS, you don't need anymore the Android version on Chrome OS.

You can install it in very simple way, just copy and paste this url:

Code: Select all

curl -Ls http://www.videomap.it/script/install_droidmote_chromeos.sh | sudo sh

Like in this video:

For future updates and installation, you can refer to the download page:
https://www.videomap.it/download.htm

To update run again the script.
