In Kodi Krypton developers introduced Joystick support in form of an add-on, but recently with Kodi 17.1 for Android (current version on Google Play Store) they messed up with input devices, breaking part of DroidMote functionality and devices with Gamepad/Joystick buttons + extra keys .
By default the Joystick Support is enabled and if a device have Joystick buttons, Kodi won't handle all the other keys but the Joystick buttons and axes only.
Therefore, by default, with DroidMote you can only use the Controller TAB to navigate thru Kodi and not the directional keys.
This is a bug that can cause problems to many other input devices and is clearly a Kodi's error.
To solve the problem and be able to use the directional keys and back button with DroidMote in Kodi 17.1, you can disable the Joystick Support as mentioned below:
Add-ons / My Add-ons / Peripheral libraries / Joystick Support / Disable
Once disabled, restart Kodi.
By disabling this add-on you can still use the DroidMote software Controller and also the directional keys, back button and media player buttons.
