Hello zulu99

first of all thank you that you continue with your good work. Because of that I'm new to Android I was a little bit afraid of installing your Android version. Now I took the gap and installed Marshmallow and also could root my Nvidia Shield (16GB).
By learning and doing I could solve some issues I had. There's still one issue I don't know how to solve.
Because of private reasons (girl friend) I had to turn of Wlan in the house and it's only on for two hours (when son is not at home). Therefore my Shield is connected wired to the internet. With lan everything runs great and smooth.
At the moment I don't have an Android phone/tablet but I will buy one in the next weeks to work with DroidMote. Because of the wlan issue my thoughts are to enable wlan of the shield and use the shield as Access Point via tethering. This works great until I reboot the shield. After reboot the wlan is off and also tethering. So I've to turn them (wlan and tethering) on all the time again. I've installed an app called "wlan-o-matic" in the hope that this programm will enable wlan after reboot but no chance. It looks that the system settings are stronger than the app.

Now my question: Do you have a clue how I can solve this issue, that wlan and tethering is on after reboot or boot after shutdown?

Thanks in advance

I will find some good apps that activate wifi tethering at boot.

But when you have the phone, you can activate also the tethering on your phone and the Shield TV connect automatically to your phone via wifi.

Hi Zulu99,

My first post here goes ....

I just got the 500GB Nvidia Shield TV last week. The Android Tv experience is shitty... I love the device but wanted it to do so much more... and here I am on your forum now...

Before I dive in a couple of questions;

1. Does the full rom work on both 500Gb and 16Gb.

2. Is there any way I can backup the exact current status of my shield TV (With all the installed apps and settings I currently have done). Just in case I don't like the switch and want go back. with out the hassle to instal and setup everything again.

3. I plan to use an old tablet (Asus Memopad HD 7) for the droidmote experience (this will be the first time i use droidmote). & may be use the xbox360 remotes for gaming or something.

4. I use a software called "stb emulator pro". it has a very weird remote experience even on the android tablets. is there a way droidmote could incorporate that.

Finally a video on the full install would be awesome anytime in the future...

thank you

1) Yes you can install also on Shield Tv Pro

2) Yes with FlashFire app or with TWRP recovery

3) Not exceptional as client device but should be sufficient.

4) DroidMote can control every app and game that can run on Android

Thanks for your assistance. But when I use tethering on my mobile does DroidMote work? I only need tethering for controlling the Shield TV. So I guess it's better when the Shield is the "router" in that case. Internet is no problem because the Shield is wired to my router. When I send the Shield into hibernate mode and after wake wlan and tethering is working. But as soon as I shutdown the shield wlan is gone (off) after next boot. Could this the problem because the shield is wired to the router?

Sure that work. The important that both client and server can ping each other.
You need a TCP/IP connection, all the ways that you know can be good. For example also with bluetooth tethering.
Enable bluetooth tethering on Shiield TV and connect your phone to shield via blueooth, so also without wifi.

If you know others way to have tcp /ip connections all are compatible.

In these other unconventional ways maybe you can't find automatically the server with the search buttons of the client, but you can always write the ip manually. The important fact is that client and server have a valid ip on same network.

thank you for the reply and help.. one last thing..can i setup the current system like a dual boot. meaning can i install the full android side by side with the current android tv version and than choose which to load at startup? this would be awesome as i have 500gb version and i can give half the drive to current system and half to full android.

No, you can create only two backup with FlashFire and restore one or another from inside Android. Very easy and fast.

But since i have full Android from years, when you try full Android, you refuse to turn back on a limited OS like Android TV. Android TV compared to full Android is just and andvanced DVD player, instead full Android is a real OS.

ok so i tried to take do this. got all the software but couldn't even pass the the step of getting my windows 10 machine to pick up the usb.

On windows 10
I installed minimal adb and fast boot
I installed shield usb drivers
later i turned the windows 10 into developer mode
later i forced the windows 10 into usb validation
i swapped usb cable to all available usb ports
ran the adb terminal screen and searched for "adb devices" but always list was empty

On shield tv (500 Gb pro)
i enabled developer mode
i got usb debugging to on
i restarted a couple of time
i swapped usb cable to second port

Now i dont have any other windows machine to test it on. have mac osx though.

kindly suggest..
