Media Insight FAQ. Everything you need to know, with clear answers and no complexity.

What is Media Insight?

Media Insight is a versatile platform for organizing, exploring and analyzing large collections of images and videos. It can be used simply to manage personal photo and video libraries with fast indexing, visual search, similarity search, face analysis, metadata and GPS tools, labels and collections.

For professional and investigative use, Media Insight goes much further, combining OCR and structured-data extraction, QR and barcode decoding, hash databases, forensic image and video analysis, source attribution, PRNU, C2PA verification and a structured Authenticity Assessment workflow.

From everyday media organization to advanced forensic examination, Media Insight brings discovery, analysis and review into a single workspace.

Who is it for?

It is designed as a multipurpose platform for forensic investigators, researchers, content teams, archivists and specialist professionals who need to efficiently examine, organize and understand large collections of visual media.

What is Media Insight’s mission?

Media Insight was created with a clear goal: to provide a highly focused platform for image and video analysis without the complexity, overhead, and high licensing costs often associated with broader forensic software suites.

Rather than trying to be an all-purpose digital forensics suite, Media Insight focuses deeply on one domain: images and videos. It is designed to make indexing, searching, categorization, review, and analysis of large visual media collections fast, practical, and genuinely useful in everyday work.

Media Insight does not simply replicate capabilities traditionally found in established analysis tools. Within the image and video domain, it aims to go further by continuously incorporating state-of-the-art technologies and modern analysis methods whenever they provide meaningful practical value, while avoiding unnecessary complexity.

This philosophy also extends to organizations and countries with limited financial resources, which may nevertheless face some of the most serious and demanding forms of digital investigation. The need for advanced investigative technology is not necessarily greatest where the resources to acquire it are most abundant. Limited budgets should not mean limited investigative capabilities. Media Insight is built on the belief that advanced image and video analysis should remain accessible, especially where these technologies can help protect vulnerable people, support victim identification efforts, identify harmful material, and support complex investigations.

Why choose Media Insight?

The best way to evaluate Media Insight is to compare it directly with the tools you already use.

You can download Media Insight, explore its capabilities and test it on the same real-world workflows you perform every day with established forensic and media analysis software.

Compare the time required, the number of steps involved, the quality of the results and the overall usability. If Media Insight allows you to reach the same reliable conclusions — or obtain additional useful information — more quickly, with less complexity and significantly lower cost, then the reason to choose it becomes straightforward.

Media Insight is not asking users to replace trusted tools because of a marketing claim. It is designed to prove its value through direct comparison on real work.

Try it on your own cases, datasets and workflows. If it helps you achieve reliable results faster and reduces the amount of manual work required, then Media Insight is doing exactly what it was created to do.

Does Media Insight offer free licences to law enforcement?

Media Insight is a multipurpose platform designed for a wide range of professional uses. However, if its technology can help law enforcement personnel prevent, investigate or solve a crime, we believe access should not be limited by cost. For this reason, eligible law enforcement personnel may receive a free-of-charge licence. Please contact us for further information.

Does it require cloud upload?

No. Media Insight does not upload your images, videos, indexes, metadata, searches or analysis results to cloud services. Indexing, search, review, organization and analysis are performed offline on your local workstation, and your media remains under your control.

An Internet connection is required only during the initial registration to complete secure authentication through Google OAuth. After registration, Media Insight and its core workflows operate offline.

Can Media Insight be used in an air-gapped environment?

Yes. Media Insight requires an Internet connection only during the initial setup to complete the secure sign-in and licensing process through Google OAuth. Once this step has been completed, Media Insight can operate completely offline without requiring further Internet access.

For fully air-gapped environments, you can also use the portable version. It can be prepared and activated on an external drive using an Internet-connected computer and then used offline on the workstation where the images and videos to be examined are stored.

The sign-in process also supports authentication using your phone or another device. This is particularly useful when analyzing media on a computer that is not yours or on which you do not want to enter your personal credentials.

Authentication is handled securely by Google OAuth: your Google password is entered only through Google's authentication system and is never provided to or stored by Media Insight.

This allows the authentication step and the forensic analysis environment to remain separate, making Media Insight suitable for offline and air-gapped forensic workflows.

Can I search using ordinary language?

Yes. Semantic search lets you describe visual content instead of relying only on filenames or folder structure.

Can it work with videos?

Yes. Media Insight can index videos, extract representative frames and bring them into the broader search and review workflow.

Can multiple people work on the same project?

Yes. Optional MySQL support enables a shared project database for multi-user workflows.

Does it alter original files?

No. Media Insight never modifies, renames, moves or deletes the original image and video files. The source media remains unchanged in its original location.

When you remove or delete an item inside Media Insight, only its record, indexed reference and related analysis data are removed from the Media Insight database. The original file remains untouched. Physically deleting a source file must be done separately outside Media Insight.

Which Windows version is required?

Media Insight supports 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11. A modern multi-core processor, at least 8 GB of RAM and sufficient SSD storage are required. For large media collections and AI-assisted analysis, 16 GB or more of RAM and a DirectX 12-compatible GPU are recommended.
