The only problematic thing in this very simple procedure, is inizialize the disk the first time, after the usb disk boot always well.

For this reason i wrote the precise steps to inizialize the disk.

Therefore follow the 9 to 18 steps to inizialixe the usb disk and after you can also restore the original recovery image and use only Flashify to change boot image on fly when you want.

YES! i did it ! :)

So, first of all, thx zulu99 :)

Already booted from usbHDD into full android (took ages during first boot progres :D) Anyway, in top left corner i have usb symbol and when open it, it ask me for what to do with connected USB device. If use it for internal storage or as external removable media. Both options ends with format all content on connected disk, so i guess, its not smart choice to do that and delete system from which i am booted on. How to handle this ?

Is logilcal. But if you have two partitions, you can use the second like you want. And you can connect also others usb disks.

Use a faster usb 3 disk to have results better than internal disk.

It is really a very pratical and useful functionality with a fast disk. Now i use it every day to have a second OS for experiments wothout change the first OS. I have two full Android.

Despite the last Leanback Launcher add mouse support, ( Leanback of Android 7 ) Android TV, compared with full Android, is a Commodore 64 :)

What disk, if any, do you recommend? I have a WD My Passport Ultra usb 3.0 hard drive that I am not using for anything super important. Would it be a good candidate?

I think, you dint get my point, zulu.

the situation is - i am booted from external USB3 hdd (where is full android installed) in full android environment. System with full android is on that HDD i am booted. And in this system it says me about external hdd connected and gives me options for formating( ofc i ignore it but is annoying to see that symbol there all the time). Thats what i feel weird. it does not sounds me logical. And on that USB HDD there is only one partition. i formated it as guide says onto ext4 only.

btw. i am not rooted yet (idk if this affects something or not). yes, i know your opinion about root is basic, but my question now is just about basics of install and use ordinary stuff and apps for start only. root can be done later on, if not neccessary for main use

and regarding to main use and that google play store problem. it says uninstall google store and go newest version. I have only option in settings to stop the google play or deactivate it. nothing more. i deactivated it and tried to use integrated browser to get apk from apkmirror place - freezes after download starts - nothing downloaded. i already downloaded it then on PC and copied on usb flash disk which i plugged into shield and its visible under settings/storage...when i click on it, and want to install apk it says it cant be done. it just does not run or open or ...nothing. i have already turned on "allow install from unknown sources". So situation is without google play store i am not able to install anything

what can be wrong there ?

Yes. Very good. But an ssd should be also better.

If you swipe away the notification about the usb disk it should not reappear. But is normal, Android think that the usb disk is a normal usb disk and ask you what you want do with this disk. But logically you must not format this disk. Swipe away and forget the message, the usb disk is your internal storage. In setting - storage, you should have an option ( long press on disk or in other way i not remeber ) to forget this disk, so you not have the message.

About root, you can root without lose nothing. Drm included. With root you can have Netflix and all others good movies / songs services. Only some stupid old service foght the root. Today with widevine drm, root can coexist.

About Google Play, go in apkmirror.com download the last version number and install. In case you have problems.

I wrote already that my first step was going to apkmirror and tried to download and install the apk. Below is text from my last comment (a bit edited):

and regarding to main use and that google play store problem.

it says uninstall google store and go newest version. So i tried to use integrated browser to get apk from apkmirror place - freezes after download starts - nothing downloaded.

Then i tried to uninstall it then. I have only option in settings to stop the google play or deactivate it, nothing more. I deactivated it and tried to use integrated browser (again) to get apk from apkmirror place - freezes after download starts - nothing downloaded.

i already downloaded it (newest version of google play store.apk from apkmirror) then on my PC and copied on usb flash disk which i plugged into shield and its visible under settings/storage...when i click on it, and want to install apk it says it cant be done. it just does not run or open or ...nothing.

i have already turned on "allow install from unknown sources". So situation is .......without functionally google play store i am not able to install anything and uasabilty of full android is really minimized

what can be wrong there ?
